On Sunday, August 21st, we welcomed the Rev. Joe Chu as our part-time interim pastor!
Pastor Joseph Chu currently serves as the Associate Program Director of Lutheran Disaster Response – U.S., ELCA. Ordained in 1990, he has served congregations in Illinois and California. From 2004-2009, he served as the Program Director for Asia and the Pacific in the ELCA’s Global Mission unit. Prior to that, Joe was the Director of Fundraising and Marketing for New Horizons, a social service agency serving people with developmental disabilities in the San Fernando Valley, Calif. In addition, he has been as a teacher, a social worker and a non-profit organization administrator in various U.S. cities, as well as in Hong Kong, where he was born and raised. Joe is a graduate of Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary, Berkeley, Calif., and Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma, Wash. He also has a Master’s degree in Pacific and International Affairs from the University of California, San Diego. Joe lives with his wife, Elizabeth and two teen-aged children in a Northwest suburb of Chicago.
Pastor Joe will partner with Interim Assistant and current congregation member Marianne Barstow to minister to the members of St. Barnabas until we call our next pastor. Please join us on Sunday to welcome Pastor Joe to the St. Barnabas community!
